Sweet Hawaij (also known as) Hawaij for Coffee
What does Hawaij mean? There are two types of Hawaij in Jewish Yemeni/Israeli cuisine. Sweet Hawaij and Savory Hawaij. Sweet Hawaij is used in applications like desserts, pastries, and breads – and even COFFEE. Sweet Hawaij is reminiscent of Indian Chai Masala, and might even remind you of the American “Pumpkin Pie Spice”! This is not a coincidence as the basic spice ingredients are consistent with Pumpkin Pie Spice (Ginger, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Clove, Nutmeg) and can have other spices added to it like anise and mace.
Ingredients: Ginger, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove
